International Research
The Council of Ontario Directors of Education and the 21st Century Learning Unit of Curriculum and Assessment Policy Branch have coordinated efforts with partners to produce international research papers for Ontario educators. The partners include Dr. Chris Dede from Harvard University, Curriculum Services Canada, and Dr. Jennifer Jenson, Dr. Nicholas Taylor and Stephanie Fisher from York University’s Faculty of Education.

Conceptual/Research Synthesis for Ontario’s Technology and Learning Fund Report
By Chris Dede and Kim Frumin, Harvard Graduate School of Education The Conceptual/Research Synthesis for Ontario’s Technology and Learning Fund Report looks closely at Ontario’s evolving, multi-phased 21st Century Teaching and Learning Strategy which builds upon strong, positive and collaborative relations between the Ministry of Education and education leaders in District School Boards. With an emphasis on supports for capacity building and knowledge mobilization, as a means for supporting teachers and school and system leaders, boards are shifting their practices to integrate promising innovations that make a demonstrable difference for student engagement, learning, achievement, and success. The Dede/Frumin research synthesis provides helpful and interesting insights into how the 21st Century Teaching and Learning Strategy is accomplishing this significant change in Ontario education, and describes illustrative conceptual frameworks and scholarly findings that support Ontario’s evolving, multi-phased 21st Century Teaching and Learning Strategy. Engaging School Districts in Evaluative Thinking and Research
Engaging School Districts in Evaluative Thinking and Research-Based Inquiry to Advance 21st Century Teaching and Learning (2014) Ontario Ministry of Education and Curriculum Services Canada co-authored this paper which was presented to the American Educational Research Association Annual Meeting (2014) as part of a multi-paper symposium: Learning Our Way Forward: Research and Evaluation Informing System Change and Innovation. This research paper examines Ontario’s multi-phased approach from 2011-2013 to engage all 7 school districts in voluntary, collaborative, inquiry-based research to investigate the impact of over 100 technology-based local innovation projects. The focus is pedagogy-driven teaching and learning in a knowledge- and technology- intensive age. |
