Leadership Series in K-12 Mathematics System Planning
K-12 mathematics instructional leaders and administrators are invited to participate in a dynamic professional learning series. This series is a joint offering of the Ministry of Education, the Ontario Association for Mathematics Education (OAME), and the Ontario Mathematics Coordinators’ Association (OMCA), and is part of the Professional Learning for Mathematics Leaders and Coaches (PLMLC) activities for 2010-11.
The Series involves:
- Resources to support system leaders as they develop their five Core Capacities as they connect to mathematics within the School Effectiveness Framework ;
- Data pertaining to student achievement to inform instructional decisions;
- New Classroom Dynamics for Powerful Learning case study findings and evidence;
- Feedback and requests for further support emerging from Math CAMPPP 2010.
Each board is invited to send one team consisting of 2 people: 1 instructional mathematics leader and 1 administrator. The application form asks for a contact person and details about both team members who will be attending. It is important that both members of the team attend all of the sessions in the series.
There are limited spaces available which will be given on a first come first served basis. Deadline for applications is Jan.25, 2011.
The PLMLC initiative will cover the cost of the venue, presenters, continental breakfast and lunch on the 3 days. Participants should arrange all other expenses (e.g., travel, accommodation, dinner, supply teacher costs as required). Funding memos (sent to Directors and copied to Student Success Leaders) in the Spring of 2010 indicated that investments in professional learning in mathematics are available through Student Success funding and in collaboration with the Student Success Leader.
This funding may be used to support staff attendance at regional PLMLC sessions.
The application form with dates and location follows.
NOTE:
- The team application form should be completed and forwarded by the contact person for the team. The contact person may or may not be a member of the team. If the contact person is a member of the team, their name must be included in the participant section as well.
- The contact person is asked to forward all relevant information such as time, location, material requirements etc. to the members of the team.
- The contact person will be the only person with whom the registrar corresponds.
- Only completed registration forms will be accepted.
- Members of the board team are expected to attend together.
