This mathematics assessment is designed for students arriving from countries where English is not the official language. The purpose of this assessment is to determine a student’s readiness for a particular secondary mathematics course. This assessment helps to identify what the student has previously learned and, in consultation with the student, informs decisions regarding course placement.
It is recommended that the assessor have a deep understanding of the secondary mathematics curriculum to ensure accurate interpretation of the assessment results and to make a sound recommendation for placement in a mathematics course.
Each assessment is based on the Ontario curriculum expectations of the previous grade. Not all curriculum expectations are addressed in the assessments. Questions contain minimal language and contextual references to allow for greater accessibility.
